Personalised Support, Pastoral Care

We recognise that every child is unique, with individual needs and requirements.

Through our pastoral systems, we offer each student personalised care, support and guidance. Small class sizes and the House system ensure that every student is known by name, and the teachers understand the students’ strengths and areas for improvement.

This personalised pastoral support is centred on the ‘home room’ in the Lower School and the ‘House’ in The Upper School.

This personal attention ensures that we also know about the student’s life outside of school: we celebrate their successes, we are supportive and effective when there are difficulties and we are expert and prepared for life’s challenges.

Pastoral care underpins our students’ entire experience of Harrow and results in safe, academically successful and fulfilled students. We work closely with parents and carers to support every child on their journey to successful adulthood.

Harrow schools are committed to the safety and protection of children. All staff and visitors are expected to comply with our school child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures.

Safeguarding is central to the Harrow family ethos. Our expectation is that all stakeholders share and understand this commitment. The school mission ensures that students are supported and empowered to achieve their academic and personal potential. The foundation for enabling this is a commitment to the highest Chinese moral standards and to international benchmarks for safeguarding and student wellbeing.

We provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued.

We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect, follow robust procedures which ensure that ‘at risk’ children receive effective support, protection and justice.

Our philosophy and vision are aligned with those of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Central to this is the acknowledgment that every child has basic fundamental rights; these include the right to develop and fulfil their potential, to express their opinions and be listened to, and protection from violence, abuse or neglect.

All of our staff undergo comprehensive safeguarding training and are fully vetted. Audit of the school’s safeguarding provision is regularly carried out by the International Child Protection Advisors (ICPA) who also provide ongoing training for staff.

Tina graduated from Worcester University. She has over 5 years teaching experience. In Tina’s opinion, teachers should be students’ friends as well as their masters. A teacher is a person knowledgeable also a good sample for students.​
