EYC Head’s Welcome

Our youngest Harrovians have had a fun and exciting year, with much to be celebrated! We have built a community of knowledgeable and compassionate learners who solve problems creatively and collaboratively. We have worked very hard to build an environment and curriculum that is catered to the needs of all the children, and we are lucky to have a team of such dedicated staff. Harrow Little Lions’ curriculum is built on the understanding that children learn through play and exploration of their natural environment. Structured time daily allows children to independently practice skills that have been taught through adult-led sessions. We have implemented a new Phonics curriculum this year, using Letters and Sounds, which begins with phonemic awareness in Pre-K and gradually moves into building skills for reading and writing by K3. This has given our children a good foundation for future learning. In order to achieve our goal of bilingualism, the children’s knowledge of their culture and language, Mandarin, has also been carefully thought out and planned for this year, through events and comprehensive classroom activities. We have built great relationships with students and parents and are all so proud of the developments the children have made in all aspects of their schooling – social, emotional, educational and most of all the development of their English. We began the year with students who had very limited levels of English. Those same students now fill the classrooms and corridors with conversation, both in Chinese and English, a feat that everyone should be immensely proud of!

It is the responsibility of all adults that nurture a child during their earliest years to support them in forming attitudes about learning and a sense of identity and individuality that will last a lifetime. To this end, building a strong link between home and school has always been a task we attach great importance to. We have enjoyed sharing the children’s achievements with parents during the 100 Days Celebration and the Winter Concert, as well as welcoming parents to participate in various parent-child activities throughout the year, such as Sports Day and Water Fun Day.  In addition, we have carried out a series of Parent Leadership Academy workshops, Round Tables, and Coffee mornings to build a shared understanding of various topics related to Early Childhood Development. We really appreciate all the parental support this year, and we look forward to working with Friends of Harrow in the coming years to continue to develop.

We are committed to building a safe, pleasant, and nurturing environment for our Little Lions.  This year we have enriched both our outdoor and indoor provisions. A vast range of new teaching resources have meant that the learning experience could be extended and enhanced. The installation of sunshades in the outdoor areas have allowed the children to play outside comfortably in all weather. We have also added a raised platform in the swimming pool ready for HLL to use in the next academic year when the swimming programme begins. We are also very excited to announce that we will have our own HLL Farm built during the summer, which will allow us to provide more opportunities for the children to build their understanding of the world and give back to the community.

We hope that this school year was everything the children dreamed it would be. We are very privileged to be a part of the fantastic achievements these children have made this year and we are excited to see what they will go on to achieve next.
