2023 Long Ducker | Running today for a sustainable tomorrow

Harrow has always attached great importance to physical education. The core values of courage, honour, humility and fellowship have always been practised by Harrovians in the 450 years of educational heritage. As part of Harrow’s traditional sports programme, the Long Ducker is a signature event that is retained by Harrow schools each year. Embodying Harrow’s centuries-old core values and leadership, as a popular annual sporting event, the Long Ducker not only improves the health of Harrovians, promotes sportsmanship and unites members of the Harrow community, but also contributes to local community and charitable endeavours.

The 2023 Harrow Nanning Long Ducker will focus on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations, continuing a centuries-old tradition. “Running today for a sustainable tomorrow” is this year’s Long Ducker theme.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations at the World Summit on Sustainable Development have been called the “17 goals that will change the world”. All countries should take action to protect the planet while promoting economic prosperity, a vision shared by people around the world. All countries should act to protect the planet while promoting economic prosperity, a vision shared by people around the world. Young people are the future of the world and as future leaders, we hope that our students will pay attention to global issues, harness their innovative spirit and become practitioners of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year’s Harrow Nanning Long Ducker is, as usual, a school-home event. It encourages all members of the community to run outdoors and get close to nature. Exercising in the fresh natural environment, along the banks of Yongjiang River,Nanning’s mother river, everyone tried their best to embrace nature by running along the 1km route for Little Lion EYC to the 5km route for students from G1 to G10.We hope all community members practice the community spirit of sustainability, calling for friendship and fellowship. By participating in this activity, we hope to draw the attention of the community to the SDGs.

As well as mums and dads supporting the runnersparents were also present at the event. The PTA coordinated all the work, they cheered for each child, organised picnics and games.

The parents not only accompanied and encouraged their children in such a rare parent-child activity. They also set an example for their children.

Running alone is lonely.
Running in a group is warm.
We support each other.
Inspire each other.
“Courage”, “Honour”, “Humility”, “Fellowship”.
The four core values are in the hearts of Harrovians
from generation to generation
